Main duties
The Matron will undertake advanced clinical assessment, needs identification, planning, case management and coordination of care for residents at British Home.
They will work proactively to reduce unplanned hospital admissions and facilitate discharge from hospital for care home residents working with the Admissions and Discharge coordinator.
They will support the RHM to lead on all compliance, audit and assurance matters for the Home with the senior nurses.

- To provide expert clinical case management and support for patients with complex care needs living in BH, who are at risk of deteriorating health that may result in declining quality of life or avoidable hospital admission.
- To practice as a senior clinical professional for at least 25% of the role, with professionalism, authority, expertise, acting as a role model for other nursing and therapy staff.
- You will diagnose, prescribe, and implement a range of core interventions with an emphasis on avoiding hospital admission or an unnecessary longer length of hospitalisation.
- To work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams internally and externally.
- Lead and participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of health care services and inter-professional work groups.
- With the RHM provide the highest standards of resident care through ongoing assessment, planning implementation and evaluation of care plans.
- To actively safeguard and promote the welfare of adults.
- Ensure the efficient and effective operation of the service; by supervising and directly managing associated nursing, therapy and departmental teams.
- Planning care interventions for people with multiple and complex long-term conditions, working with the multi-professional team to positively lead the clinical team to support outstanding care delivery.
- To lead and support senior nursing colleagues to conduct quality audits and service improvement projects across British Home.
- To act as a coordinator for internal and external clinical team communication
- To promote accountability and professionalism in the clinical team.
- To provide senior clinical support, oversight, and training to meet the complex needs of residents.
- To be actively involved in clinical business development, including service planning.
- To manage the service in accordance with the Registered Manager, Director of Care and Registered Provider.
- Deputise for the Registered Manager
- To ensure practice is in line with legislative requirements, relevant regulations, in line with best practice and within the financial plans agreed from time to time with the Registered Provider.
Matron - Working Hours:
5 days over a 7-day period with varying day, evening and weekend shift patterns, and on call duties as agreed with the manager.
Responsibilities and Duties of the Job
Matron - Role Specific Duties:
- Support the RHM to lead and manage the clinical operations at British Home, including line management and supervision of nursing and care colleagues.
- Support the RHM to lead and co-ordinate relationships with external and internal teams to facilitate excellent clinical care.
- Ensure Residents are at the heart of care delivery and their wishes and preferences enhance their wellbeing, working closely with the Head of Therapy.
- Be accountable for the delivery of clinical audits and service improvement projects as required.
- Compile clinical quality audit, compliance and assurance reports to ensure standards of clinical practice are maintained in accordance with policies, procedures, regulation, and through the essence of care benchmarking.
- Provide clinical support, oversight, and training for the clinical team to manage the complex needs of residents.
- Support in complaint and safeguarding responses as required, including undertaking root cause analysis investigations.
- Support Admission & Discharge planning alongside the Admission and Discharge Co-ordinator and Head of Therapy.
- Undertake all aspects of medicine management in line with legal, professional, and regulatory requirements.
- Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of those individuals they support. Actively respect patients privacy and dignity and protect their property and possessions.
- Assist with the investigations of complaints, participate in the risk management process, critical incident reporting, evaluation, dissemination and change in practice.
- You will have a responsibility to understand and follow BH policies and procedures.
- Participate in the service planning and nursing strategy within BH and promote its implementation within practice.
- Ensure that all aspects of professional behaviour as required within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct are always followed.
- Delivery of prescribed medication following patient assessment with responsibility and accountability for risk management and with-holding medication when appropriate and notifying medical doctor

- To lead on clinical audits and service improvement projects as requested by the Matron, Registered Manager and Director of Care.
Matron - Personal Responsibilities:
- Be registered with NMC and work within the Code of Conduct
- To comply with NMC requirements with revalidation every 3 years; this will require, (among other measures), obtaining practice-based feedback, reflective discussions, written self-reflections on practice, and obtaining confirming evidence of continued adherence to the NMC codes of practice from a health care professional, normally the line manager.
- To hold, or be willing to work towards, appropriate postgraduate qualifications.
- Attending statutory training and any other training as directed by management.
Matron - Specific Requirement for Qualifications
- Excellent standard of written and verbal English to enable Good English - Written and verbal
- Registered with relevant body eg.NMC
- Level 1 Registered Nurse qualification
- Maintain PDP attending workshops commensurate with the role to develop and maintain best practice
- Supervisory or management qualification

- Investigate and draft responses to complaints received, ensuring response times are adhered to meet with complainants as requested. Formulate action plans for issues raised through the complaints process and ensure these are completed.
